Greetings,

Reflection

Here, we are in the fifth week of our study “Wrestling with Doubt: Finding Faith.” Each week, we have examined topics that cause us to discuss, debate and discern. This week is not an exception! This week, we are faced with another puzzle: Why prayers go unanswered. Why are some prayers granted while others are not?? Why did that person receive an answer to prayers and miraculous healing occur? Why did my loved one die despite my prayers for miracles? Why God? God, do you not love me? I believe we have uttered one of these questions sometime in our lifetime. I admit that these questions have occurred to me. I assume that we even know people whose prayers were unanswered. Most of the individuals chose to abandon their faith in God. I was sad when my prayers went unanswered, but I choose to believe that there is a reason God did not fulfill my prayers on command.

As you read the chapter, pay attention to Hamilton’s explanations about why prayers aren’t answered but they still are needed.

  1. Do you agree with him?
  2. What is your favorite Prayer? A hymn? A psalm?

July 7 What makes a hero? By Matthew Rawle (six-week study) VBS camp’s theme is Hero Hotline.

What Makes a Hero? offers us an image of what it looks like to be victorious over trials and temptations. Looking at pop culture heroes and others through the lens of faith, Matt Rawle shows how Jesus turned the concept of hero on its head. In keeping with his theme, “Pop in Culture,” the book examines how good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, and overcoming adversity are fundamental to how Christians understand salvation.
