St. Andrew College Connection

We have recently established a college ministry to appeal to those young adults (and older ones, too!) who want something different.

We have a College Age Sunday School Class that all are welcome to attend. What do we mean by "College Age?"

Well, anyone over the age of 18 who has graduated high school and may or may not be in college. Basically, we invite anyone who is interested to join us. We discuss Christian solutions to today's critical life issues.

Our group journeys on a mission trip every summer. We have established the first weekend (Thursday through Tuesday)in June every year as our Mission Trip time. This allows for those students who wish to seek summer employment an opportunity to schedule this trip.

  • Our first trip (2004) was to Marseilles, Illinois where we did some painting, riverbank cleanup, and various types of yardwork. We also provided a Christian music concert in the local community park.

  •
  • Our second trip (2005) was to Decatur, Illinois where one of our students attends college at Miliken University. We rebuilt a wheelchair ramp, painted the exterior of a house, and worked in a soup kitchen.

  •
  • Our third trip (2006) was to Louisville, Kentucky. A former member of St. Andrew UMC now works for the Kentucky Conference and was kind enought to help arrange work for us in Louisville. We stayed at Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center in Crestwood, Kentucky. Kavanaugh is a 55 acre Life Enrichment Center located in Crestwood, Kentucky. It is owned by the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our mission consisted of doing some painting and maintenance to the Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. We also assisted with food preparation and service to the homeless of the area. One of our teams also worked on painting the exterior of a house.

  • For our fourth trip (2007) we decided to stay in the area and help out members of Saint Andrew UMC. We did a variety of tasks like painting, yard cleanup, and gardening. We also did some patchwork and painting in one of the classrooms in the family life center.
